things I learned over this past weekend

  1. My son, in his element, looks like The Littlest Bond Villain.
  2. Any male in our household will instantly be attracted to things involving lots and lots of water.
  3. Although I did not learn this about myself this past weekend specifically, it was certainly reinforced for the umpteenth time: it does not take alcohol to make me embarrass myself in front of my own son. (The next logical step was sitting in it.)
  4. Parents, perhaps in part because they have a right to be, are downright cruel human beings. For some reason, in this particular area of the San Jose Children's Discovery Museum, we saw fit to dress our boy in a headscarf, and he saw no reason to remove it. In fact, he completed his ensemble by clutching two miniature Chinese teacups, and then he set off running all over the area like some demented cross-dressing midget tea pusher. What I learned: my son has his daddy's 1) sense of theatrics; 2) manic/demonic energy; 3) lack of any shame whatsoever. Why the hell can't you run around in a museum with teacups and a headscarf, after all? The only thing missing was LM going up to other toddlers and asking if they had any tea for his bunghole.
